Barcelona, October 23, 2023 - The first act of the Barcelona Winter Series 23-24, which took place over the past weekend in the waters of Barcelona and was organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, has concluded.

The J70 fleet completed a total of 6 races, with four on Saturday and two on Sunday, with a non-racing day on Friday due to adverse weather conditions. A total of eight boats participated, representing Spain, Great Britain, and France.

On Saturday, the J70 'Can Marlés,' skippered by Lucia Pombo, took the lead with 10 points (4-1-4-1), followed by 'Sevy,' helmed by Jean-Yves Martin (3-3-2-2), and 'SeriousFun,' led by Tony Hayward (1-2-3-5). On Sunday, the 'Hang Ten' team secured an exciting victory after being off the podium on Saturday. The team, composed of Jorge Martínez Doreste, Món Cañellas, Alberto Guillén, and Silvia Mas, took the lead on the final day with two first-place finishes, an impressive comeback that catapulted them from fourth place to first. They emerged as the winners of this first act, leading the season with 11 points, just one point ahead of the English team 'Seriousfun' by Tony Hayward, while the French J70 'Sevy' closed the podium with 13 points.

It is expected that the fleet will reach 16 units in November, coinciding with the launch of the Barcelona Foiling Winter Series for 'foiling' classes, Persico 69F and Waszp. This unique and surprising competition will take place in the waters of the Catalan capital until March 2024, the year of the 37th America's Cup.
